WHEREAS, Constitution Article III names pastoral recruitment as one of the Synod’s main objectives, along with the support of established synodical colleges, universities, and seminaries; and

WHEREAS, Residential seminary education has always been the gold standard in producing faithful pastors for the Synod; and

WHEREAS, Our Lord Jesus Himself gathered disciples around Him and instructed them personally for several years before sending them out into the world to preach and baptize; and

WHEREAS, The interpersonal communication and pastoral formation of residential education cannot be duplicated over the internet and computer screens; and

WHEREAS, The seminaries of the Synod enjoy the leadership of competent and visionary presidents in the Rev. Dr. Thomas Egger and the Rev. Dr. Jon Bruss; therefore be it

Resolved, That the Synod in convention voice its support for residential seminary education as the unquestioned standard for pastoral formation; and be it further
