WHEREAS, God is a God of order (1 Cor. 14:33) and re petit io est mater studio rum (repetition is the mother of learning); and
WHEREAS, Having a good stable text that does not change is helpful for hearing, reading, marking, learning, and inwardly digesting the Word; and
WHEREAS, The English Standard Version (ESV) was published by Crossway in 2001 and has since that time undergone revisions in 2002, 2007, 2011, and 2016, along with a standing desire for ongoing revisions (Crossway, “Crossway Statement on the ESV Bible Text,” www.cross way.org/articles/cross way-statement-on- the-esv-bible-text/, Sept. 28, 2016); and
WHEREAS, The New King James Version (NKJV), published by Thomas Nelson, is also a clear, faithful, beautiful, and true translation, quoted by Synod’s Lutheran Service Book: Agenda, including the Rites of Holy Baptism (Mark 10:13–16), Ordination (Matt. 28:18–20; John 20:21–23; Eph. 4:11–12; Acts 20:28; 2 Tim. 3:14–17), and Committal (Job 19:23–27); and the NKJV has not been revised since 1982; and
WHEREAS, The NKJV is used in faithful cate cheti cal material including resources by Concordia Cate cheti cal Academy (Lutheran Catechesis), Kloria Publishing, and Ad Crucem (The Family Bible Commentary, Vol. 1–5), and has seen increased usage throughout our Synod; therefore be it
Resolved, That the Synod in convention ask Concordia Publishing House to produce additional resources to include at least Bibles, commentaries, and devotionals using the NKJV.
