Duties

Six-year term. Three two-day, in-person meetings in St. Louis and one one-day internet-conference meeting per year, with significant work done between meetings — especially in communication with the districts on how the Office of National Mission can serve in coordination and support of district ministries.

Desired qualifications

Nominees should possess familiarity with and express strong leadership in and support for LCMS mission and ministry activities, particularly in U.S. contexts.

Especially desirable: experience and expertise in ministry and theology, witness and outreach, education and catechesis, human care, stewardship, policy writing, extended church work on one or more domestic mission fields or focused ministry areas, prior service on national or district boards, administration of complex organizations, business, law, finance, human resources, and donor relations.

Board members are expected to work collaboratively, speak and listen actively in board and staff interactions, faithfully review working materials, provide constructive comments, honor confidentiality, and maintain a spirit of mutual encouragement.

Additional regulations

  • Regional seats require residence within the region; subsequent residence outside the region permits completion of the present term but disqualifies a new term.
